How the way we keep, manage and use animals affects their current and future welfare

Last changed: 03 April 2024

Individuals interact with their physical and social environment in different ways according to their inherent charactertistics and previous experiences. The more we learn about the complexity of these  interactions the more we realise the need to improve our understanding to prevent welfare problems and promote positive experiences. Our research here usually involved fundamental studies of behaviour, physiology, immunology etc for animals with different genetic backgrounds, early rearing environments, nutrition etc.  Within this area we also consider our research work on human animal interactions and on understanding the animal’s point of view in these interactions.
