“Chávez Ravine” - movie with roundtable discussion

Last changed: 01 September 2023

During the SLU Landscape day in October 2021, the PhD forum watched a movie called “Chávez Ravine: A Los Angeles Story” and held a roundtable discussion.

We watched a movie called “Chávez Ravine: A Los Angeles Story”, by Jordan Mechner 2004 (26 minutes). A documentary about the politics and economics of land in the United States, based on the story of a Mexican American village destroyed in the 1950s to build Dodger Stadium. The filmmaker explores what happened through interviewing both the official who were involved in the process deconstruction of the community and the former residents of Chávez Ravine.

Afterwards, we opened a roundtable discussion about the movie and related topics to landscape.
