In this project we will investigate the potential for goat production in Laos, the value chain and possibilities to improve the production at farm level by using collected feeds for fattening of the goats.

The production and consumption of goat meat is rapidly increasing in Laos. A traditional way of keeping goats is to have them indoors and let them out to find their own feed. This results in a low production, and long rearing times. During cropping season the fields are protected, and also during the dry season feed supply is limited. In this project we want to investigate the potential for goat production in Laos, the value chain and possibilities to improve the production at farm level by using collected feeds for fattening of the goats. Animal owners, middlemen and restaurant owners will be interviewed, and experiments in research facilities will be performed.
