Presentation by Dr. Simone Prospero, The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) 29 March 14.00. "Chestnut cultivation in southern Switzerland: from the past to the future". This event could be in Silvicum.

Simone Prospero studied Forest Sciences at the University of Switzerland (ETH) in Zurich. After completing his PhD at ETH and The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) in 2003, he conducted two PostDocs, one in Oregon (USA) and one in Bordeaux (France). In 2007 he came back to WSL as a scientific researcher and since October 2022 he is a leader of the research group Phytopathology. His main research interests are invasive fungal pathogens, in particular their biology, population genetics, early detection, and biological control. In his seminar, he will discuss chestnut culture in southern Switzerland, with special emphasis on the management of chestnut stands, the importance of fruit and wood for the local community, abiotic and abiotic disturbance factors, and future challenges for chestnut forests.
