New project: better biological control

Published: 26 August 2014

Regardless of farming system, biological control is an important part of Swedish farmers’ pest management strategies. But there is a need for better technologies and more knowledge about how the biological plant protection should be used to give the best results.

The knowledge of how biological preparations shall be spread to get the best effect on pests is scarcer than for chemical preparations. This can result in a poorer treatment effect.

The Swedish Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (JTI) has launched a new two-year development project in which the application technique of biological preparations and natural enemies to be investigated and optimized. Experiments will be performed in various crops both on open ground and in greenhouses.
