Prestudy regarding reduced nutrient leaching from vegetable field production in Scania

Last changed: 25 October 2023

This prestudy was performed in collaboration between the Governor's mission "Water" of
the province of Scania, Southern Sweden, and the SLU:faculty for Landscape planning, horticulture
and agriculture and Scanian growers. The overall goal was to act for a reduced nitrogen and
phosphorous load in the Baltic Sea. Its specific goal was to study the situation of intensive cropping
systems, i.e. field vegetable production and to assess the alternative methods for reduced leakage of
nitrogen and phosphorous from these cropping systems, among others infiltration, reuse of nutrient
enriched water, recirculation and lime filter.
