Integrated weed control in seeded onion

Last changed: 25 October 2023

In project "Integrated weed control in seeded onion" we are studying if it is possible to reduce the use of herbicides in seeded onions through integrated concept where chemical and mechanical control methods are combined to full strategies. It combines mechanical control by finger weeder alternatively torsion weeder with inter-row hoe together with chemical control. Furthermore, we investigated whether band spraying in combination with row hoeing could give a maintained weed control effect compared with broadcast spray, so "hectare dose" can be significantly reduced compared with broadcast spray.

The project is carried by SLU Alnarp in collaboration with the Hushållningssällskapet in Kristianstad and lasts for 2013-2015. It has been funded by the Minor Use and Partnership Alnarp.
