Ammonia from houses for broiler chickens - development of a method for measurements and emission measurements

Last changed: 25 October 2023

Producers of broiler chickens are forced to report emissions of ammonia due to environmental considerations. By now no data regarding emissions of ammonia from modern Swedish broiler chicken houses are available. For field measurement there is a need for a simple method for quantification of these emissions.
The aim of the project is to:

  • Develop a method suited for field measurements of ammonia emissions from Swedish broiler chicken houses Quantify the ammonia emissions from such houses
  • Study the importance of temperature, humidity, and litter moisture content concerning emissions of ammonia in regard to:
    o  Improved production
o  Carbon dioxide production used as a factor in the intended model development

The project is funded by The Swedish Farmers' Foundation for Agricultural Research (SLF)

Duration of the project: 2013-2016
