GrassRefine is a collaboration between the department for Agricultural Research in Northern Sweden and the Department for Forest Biomaterial and Technology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. We will develop systems for cropping, processing and characterisation of biomass from grass intercropped with legumes for different purposes.

The project focus on harvest of green biomass that has been fertilized with biosolids. Fractionation of the biomass both with field based equipment and in a lab pilot will be evaluated as feedstock for both energy (biogas and bioethanol) and products (for example fibre products, absorption material, insulation material, fodder and extraction of specialized chemicals). Finally the most promising systems will be evaluated with respect to economy and environmental impact.
