Life Cycle Assessment

All human activity has an impact on the environment. Life cycle assessment is a method to analyse the full impact of a product or service during its full lifetime (including resource extraction, production, waste management, transport etc.) on a system level.

Life Cycle Assessment Research

In the group LCA 4F at the Department of Energy and Technology we use life cycle assessment (LCA) to analyse Farms, Forests, Food and Fuels. We work with questions such as:

  • How can we best utilize by-products from agriculture and forestry?
  • What is the environmental impact of biofuels?
  • What is the carbon footprint of food?
  • How can farms become self-sufficient in fuel and fertilizer?
