EMMA 5

Last changed: 07 June 2011

EMMA 5 was a project in which SLU, SMP, SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden and Volvo Construction Equipment Components participated. It was tasked to research how varying loads influence emissions from biofuels.

Mixing a small fraction of renewable fuel with conventional Diesel is advantageous from many viewpoints. As it only is a minor fraction no modifications are needed of existing powertrains, fuel pumps & infrastructure. The renewable fraction will reduce emissions of fossil carbon into the atmosphere. The project studied how changing the fuel composition changed the fuel emissions.
