Last changed: 03 March 2023

The Department of Animal Nutrition and Management comprises both teaching and research activities. Our work encompasses the main agricultural species, i.e. cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry, as well as reindeer, fish, dogs and horses. Research is focused on nutrient metabolism and utilisation, and on the relationship between husbandry systems, animal welfare, health, behaviour and production.

About 60 people are employed by the department of which about 12 are administrative or technical staff.

The department is situated at Ultuna campus, in VHC (Centre for Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science) and at Campus in Umeå. We have access to laboratories and facilities for cattle, pigs and poultry. Our reindeer research is all done in field. The research at the Department of Animal Nutrition and Management is mainly conducted in the areas of feed / nutrition and animal husbandry.
