Jean-Francois Valarcher, Professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences (KV); Ruminant Medicine Unit

  • Professor of Ruminant Medicine and Diplomate ECHBM (European College of Bovine Health Management).
  • Responsible for the Ruminants clinic and the subject Ruminants Medicine.

Supervises and participates in theoretical and practical teaching and other activities of the clinic (medicine, surgery and investigation of herd problems).

The main interest is in the development of clinical and educational activities and research aimed at improving the identification, treatment and prevention of production-related diseases in cattle. The latter both at individual and herd level.

Sara Hägglund, Researcher at the Department of Clinical Sciences (KV); Ruminant Medicine Unit.

  • Licensed veterinarian and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Docent in veterinary science with a focus on ruminant infectious diseases and immunity.

Main interest in production-related diseases in cattle, and development of combined clinical, medical and scientific competences in the veterinary profession.

Involved in theoretical and clinical teaching, clinical activities and counseling. Course leader for the course Idisslarmedicin, Year 4-5, at the veterinary program, SLU. Resident at the European College for Bovine Health Management.

Catarina Svensson, Professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences (KV); Unit for Ruminant Medicine.

  • Licensed veterinarian and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Professor in bovine health care.

Main interest in methodology in animal health counseling, calf and young animal health, production diseases.Participates in teaching mainly in preventive herd management in dairy herds and investigation of herd problems, as well as in animal health advice to dairy herds.

Salvatore Ferraro, clinical coordinator

  • Licensed veterinarian
  • Diplomate ECHBM (European College of Bovine Health Management
  • Teacher and coordinator of the Idissler Clinic.

Graduated as a veterinarian in Italy in 2008 and worked for several years in cattle practice in Italy and France. Started a recidency program in 2016 in 'Bovine health management' at Université de Montréal, Canada.

Supervises and participates in theoretical and practical teaching at the Idisslar Clinic. Main interest is to develop diagnostic rapid tests and lameness in cattle.

Sergey Gazeev, intern

  • Licensed clinical veterinarian with main interest in both surgery and internal medicine.

Works with animals at the Ruminants clinic and participates in clinical teaching and supervision of veterinary students during their clinical courses and stay at the Ruminants clinic.   

Iraj Mansouryan Tabaei, TF assistant professor

  • Licensed clinical veterinarian and licensed veterinary nurse with main interest in infectious diseases and imaging in cattle.

Works with animals at the Ruminants clinic and participates in clinical teaching and supervision of veterinary students during their clinical courses and stay at the Ruminants clinic.   

Therese Åkesson, internx

  • Licensed veterinarian

Took a veterinary degree from SLU in January 2023. Worked as a veterinarian at the district veterinarians from June 22 to August 23 as an emergency veterinarian with all animal species but with a focus on large animals. Raised with agriculture and with broad previous work experience in both the beef and horse sector as a substitute, riding teacher/rider, animal care and as a nurse at the UDS horse clinic.

Supervises and participates in theoretical and practical teaching at the Equine Clinic.

No specialty area yet, now at the ruminant clinic for deepening knowledge in the subject of ruminant medicine.
