More about Forest Inventory and Sampling

Last changed: 18 October 2016

Forest inventory and sampling is an important area for a large number of applications within practical forestry and environmental studies.

Traditionally, forest inventories have mainly focused on trees and stands. However, today several other factors of importance for sustainable forestry are covered as well, for example indicators of biodiversity and greenhouse gas balances.

The subject area Forest Inventory and Sampling especially focuses on:

  • Developing cost-effective inventory systems for practical forestry and environmental monitoring and assessment.
  • Developing models demanded by forest inventory and forest planning.
  • Establish an infrastructure for research based on data from the national forest inventory.
  • Development and application of an infrastructure to make historical forest inventory data available for new analyzes.
