An important part of remote sensing is to continuously develop methods for producing national raster databases with estimated variables.

An important part of the remote sensing activities is to develop methods for the Department’s ongoing environmental analysis (Foma). Among other things, methods are continuously being developed to produce improved national raster databases with estimated variables, such as volume, tree species composition and tree height.

Through cooperation with the Swedish National Forest Inventory (NFI), remote sensing based methods are developed to improve the accuracy for estimates of variables such as volume and cuttings provided by the NFI. The purpose is, to report results for smaller areas than counties.
