Asa High-yield Experimental Forest - Background

Last changed: 27 January 2015

Asa HYEF was established in May 2009 as a collaboration between the forest owner Sveaskog and the Swedish University of Agricultural Science (SLU). Asa HYEF is a unique project, not only in Sweden, but also internationally.

Intensive forestry brings the opportunity to meet growing demands for forest and forest products and help solving one of the most critical problems of our times – climate change. However, the effects of intensive forestry on the sustainability of the forest ecosystem are inadequately understood. To study the methods for increased forest production on a larger scale than on research plots is a new challenge, but it also brings new possibilities.
