Below is a presentation of the department's organisation. Minutes from meetings in the SOL common work groups can be found on our Share Point (called Arbetsplatsen).

Organisational description

Groups at division level

VU: Executive committee consisting of the head of division, faculty professors, directors of studies and others that through their assignments are relevant. Employments at division level are to be discussed in this group. Meetings are held once a month. Minutes are saves on server P:/.

RES: Research committee consisting of the head of division, supervisors at postgraduate level and, if relevant for the division, those managing larger research project although not presently supervising. The committee handles recruitment, progression and supervision of postgraduate students, and research strategy issues. It is an advisory committee for the head of division. Sol common work groups

SOL’s External Collaboration group: A work group for external collaboration with representatives from all divisions. The working group is concerned with collaborative activities with the surrounding society that contribute to research development, development of the education at SLU and/or knowledge and democratic development.

SOL’s Research Collegium: Consisting of the faculty professors (and possible substitutes for those subjects where faculty professors’ positions are vacant) with the purpose of strengthening cooperation between divisions and taking responsibility for the comprehensive academic environment at the department. It is also an opportunity for the head of department to keep the faculty professors informed on issues concerning research. The head of department summons to meetings, appr. once a month. SOL-FUN: Board for postgraduate studies with representatives from each division/subject led by the director of postgraduate studies. The board meets twice every semester, addressing and discussing issues common for all postgraduate students at the department. The director of postgraduate studies acts as representative of all postgraduate students in the management team.

SOL’s Education Collegium: Consists of directors of studies and of representatives in the programme committees. The director of undergraduate studies acts as convener. A few examples of assignments and issues:

• Pedagogical development at the department and define/formulate our pedagogical profile,
• Review of all the department’s courses (basic and advanced level) for identifying any
convergences between courses and find possibilities for co-reading,
• Arrange a yearly education day for the entire department.

SAM group – Health & Safety: Head of department (responsible for the work environment at the department) coordinates the systematical health & safety activities together with the health & safety representatives, the trade-union representatives and the equal opportunities representative. The group meets appr. 4 times a year. Minutes are saved on server P:/.

Heads of department’s group: Consists of the head of department, vice head of department, director of undergraduate studies and administrative manager. They meet every other Tuesday. The group is a committee that addresses routine matters and prepares issues for the management team.

Management team: Consists of the head of department, vice head of department, administrative manager, the heads of the divisions, research group leader for the future platform, the manager of the collaborative centre and the director of undergraduate studies. (The director of postgraduate studies is adjunct). The team is advisory to the head of department. Meetings are held once a month, on Wednesdays and minutes are saved on server P:/.
