Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies conducts research, education and environmental monitoring in wildlife and fish. The research is both applied and basic and is concentrated in different competence areas: Forest zooecology and biodiversity, Fish biology and genetics, and Wildlife and fish tourism.

The department was formed in 2007 after the merging of the two former SLU departments, Animal ecology and Aquaculture.
