Forskningsprocessens kontext och process I: teorier och metoder

Detta är en kurs i social teori, där dels grundläggande sociala teorier presenteras och diskuteras och dels studenterna tränas i att kunna använda och applicera teorierna på ett empiriskt material, det vill säga att lära sig att teoretisera. Kursen fokuserar även på sammankopplingen av teori och metod. Under kursen ska studenterna också börja arbeta på sina individuella forskningsproblem. De ska formulera ett forskningsproblem och välja vilka teorier som kan användas för att teoretisera runt både problemet och det potentiella empiriska materialet

Kursen ger studenterna en grundläggande förståelse för teoretiska och metodologiska kontexter och för vilka perspektiv olika teorier, begrepp och metoder bidrar med till datainsamling och analys. Kursens huvudsakliga fokus ligger på kvalitativa metoder, men den teoretiska kontexten för kvantitativa metoder presenteras också. Kursen presenterar de teoretiska grunderna för social analys, samspelet mellan struktur och handling, hermeneutik, fenomenologi, genusanalys, marxistisk social teori och social rättvisa.

Kursen består av föreläsningar samt individuella och gruppövningar, som diskuteras under seminarier.
