Antagen till Horticultural Science – Master’s Programme eller kunskaper motsvarande 120 hp, varav 60 hp naturvetenskap eller 60 hp samhällsvetenskap, samt Engelska 6.Mål
Kursen syftar till att ge teoretisk kunskap i innovationsledning (innovation management) och produktutvecklingsprocesser, med tillämpning på de gröna näringarna.
Efter avslutad kurs ska studenten kunna:
redogöra för hur innovationsprocesser, olika utvecklingsstrategier och produktutveckling, inom trädgårdsområdet, kan ske utifrån långsiktiga hållbarhetsperspektiv,
beskriva och redogöra för kunskaps- och innovationssystem, med tillämpning på trädgårdsområdet,
resonera kring systemtänkande och visa förmåga att integrera flera olika systemperspektiv (t.ex. innovationssystem, kunskapssystem, produktionssystem, livsmedelssystem, företag/organisationer som system),
förklara begreppet cirkulär och biobaserad ekonomi och hur dessa principer kan tillämpas inom trädgårdsområdet.
Innehåll
Kursen fokuserar på:
teori i innovationsprocesser och produktutveckling.
metoder för att analysera användares behov, önskemål och efterfrågan.
hur innovations- och utvecklingsprocessen kan sammankopplas med fokus på slutanvändarnas behov, önskemål och efterfrågan.
hur produkt- och innovationsprojekt planeras, genomförs och leds.
att analysera problem och föreslå hållbara utvecklingsstrategier för att nå långsiktiga hållbarhetsmål.
teorier om lärande organisationer.
skriftlig- och muntlig kommunikation mot olika målgrupper.
En övergripande och central utgångspunkt är de tre dimensionerna: 1. Företagets interna processer, 2. Det sektoriella systemet (trädgårdsbranschen) och 3. Ett utökat perspektiv som omfattar sociala, ekonomiska och ekologiska faktorer som påverkar den långsiktiga hållbarheten.
Schemalagda övningar, seminarier och studiebesök är obligatoriska.

För godkänd kurs fordras godkända skriftliga och muntliga uppgifter samt närvaro vid obligatoriska kursmoment.
- Examinatorn har, om det finns skäl och är möjligt, rätt att ge en kompletteringsuppgift till den student som inte blivit godkänd på en examination.
- Om studenten har ett beslut från SLU om riktat pedagogiskt stöd på grund av funktionsnedsättning, kan examinatorn ge ett anpassat prov eller låta studenten genomföra provet på ett alternativt sätt.
- Om denna kursplan läggs ned, ska SLU besluta om övergångsbestämmelser för examination av studenter, som antagits enligt denna kursplan och ännu inte blivit godkända.
- För examination av självständigt arbete (examensarbete) gäller dessutom att examinatorn kan tillåta studenten att göra kompletteringar efter inlämningsdatum. Mer information finns i utbildningshandboken.

Grading criteria for the course Fö0435 - Product Development and Innovation Systems in Horticulture
Objective:
The aim of the course is to theoretical knowledge in innovation management and product development processes, with application on horticultural and agricultural firms.
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- explain and analyze how innovation processes, different developmental strategies and product development, within the horticultural sector, can be implemented based on long-term sustainability perspectives,
- describe and to give an account of knowledge- and innovation systems, with application to the horticultural sector,
- discuss systems thinking and show ability to integrate several different system perspectives (e.g. innovation system, knowledge system, product development system, firm/organization system),
- explain the concepts circular economy and biobased economy and how these principles may be applied within the horticultural area.
The course consists of seven mandatory exercises/projects/activities: Grades
- 1: A written individual report (IMS) F or 3
- 2: Examination seminar (IMS) F or 3
- 3: Written individual report (VSB) F, 3, 4 or 5
- 4: Oral presentation and written report (BT) F or 3
- 5: Individual written report (IMS) F, 3, 4 or 5
Product development project (VF)
Individual report F, 3, 4 or 5
Group presentation F or 3
- lecture: Plan and implement one student lecture (IMS) F or 3
Mandatory course elements: Presentations of exercises, field-trips, quizzes, workshops, seminars and participate in student lectures.
The final grade is based on all exercises and mandatory parts included in the course.
