Forskningsprocessens kontext och process II: teorier och metoder

Detta är en fortsättningskurs i social teori, som bygger på kursen ”Forskningsprocessens kontext och process I”. I denna kurs presenteras dels grundläggande och fördjupande sociala teorier och dels tränas studenterna i att kunna använda och applicera teorierna på ett empiriskt material, det vill säga att lära sig att teoretisera. Kursen analyserar även sammankopplingen av teori och metod. Under kursen fortsätter studenterna att arbeta teoretiskt med sina individuella forskningsproblem. Dessutom övar de på att formulera och teoretisera runt olika forskningsproblem för att fördjupa sina kunskaper i praktisk teoretisk användning.

Kursen ger studenterna en fördjupad förståelse för teoretiska och metodologiska kontexter och för vilka perspektiv olika teorier, begrepp och metoder bidrar med till datainsamling och analys. Kursens huvudsakliga fokus ligger på kvalitativa metoder, men den teoretiska kontexten för kvantitativa metoder presenteras också. Kursen presenterar de teoretiska grunderna för diskurs- och världssystemanalys, sociala analyser av byråkratier och förvaltning, actor-network-theory (ANT), strukturalism och poststrukturalism, kritisk teori och genusteori.

Kursen består av föreläsningar samt individuella och gruppövningar, som diskuteras under seminarier.

Be able to analyze and critically discuss the main content, arguments, concepts and assumptions of the scientific study of social organization, practices and construction of meaning

Be able to analyze, evaluate and critically discuss - using philosophy of science - the role of science related to rural development, natural resource management and environmental communication

Be able to account for and critically discuss the historic and current contexts of the major traditions of philosophy of science.

Be able to analyze and critically discuss the interconnection between theory, methodology and specific methods

Be able to conduct and critically account for a basic process of social theorizing in relation to a specific research project

Be able to demonstrate excellent understanding of the literature of the course.

Submit the final home exam within the stipulated time frame

Submit the auto-ethnography when required

Participate actively in weekly discussion seminars
