Nature and Animal Assisted Interventions

Nature assisted interventions make use of plants, other natural elements or companion animals, as part of programmes for prevention, treatment or rehabilitation in health care settings and other institutions (e.g. jails) or everyday settings as schools, workplaces and housing for elderly.
Based on the current knowledge and state of the art of nature assisted intervention students will learn in what way plants, other natural elements and companion animals can add to restoration, rehabilitation and treatment for humans’ health and well-being; both as part of different institutions and as programmes for life-style changes which make nature assisted interventions part of everyday life. The course is divided into two main sections: The first section will focus on the interaction between human and plants and other natural elements, while the second part will focus on the interaction between human and animals, with specific focus on companion animals.
The course comprises lectures, literature seminars, study visits, project work, exercises and a scientific paper.

The course consists of four main blocks including a number of compulsory online elements see information below from course leader.
