Nutritional Physiology
The course focuses on studies of metabolism and nutrient utilization in animals on cell-, organs and organism level. Important differences and similarities in nutrient metabolism in different animal species will be discussed during the course.
The course contains lectures and group work including evaluation and presentation of scientific texts. Part of the course is web-based. Compulsory course tasks occur as e g exercises, seminar and case studies.
The course content corresponds to 5 weeks full-time studies.

Admitted to a postgraduate program in animal science, biology, veterinary medicine, food science, nutrition, nursing, or related subjects, or to a residency program in veterinary science.Mål
After completing the course the student shall be able to: 1) Explain important anatomical, physiological and metabolic differences and similarities between species, and be able to evaluate its impact for different feeding strategies, and be able to suggest alternative feeding strategies for a given species 2) Explain the function of nutritional important vitamins and minerals in the metabolism 3) Describe central endocrine systems affecting the regulation of metabolism 4) Evaluate different factors affecting energy metabolism and energy requirements in animals 5) Explain nutrient metabolism on cell and organ level in different animal categories and be able to evaluate its impact in different nutritional scenariosInnehåll
