Webinar on Zoom, Uppsala

Food systems resilience in the aftermath of covid-19 – Should the future of food be global or local?

seminarier, workshops |

Please join us for a conversation with Pierre-Marie Aubert, IDDRI, and Izabella Teixeira, International Resource Panel and Brazil's former Minister of the Environment (2010-16), moderated by Samara Brock. This is a soft launch of the newly global food systems dialogue collaboration Table.

We will examine some of the vulnerabilities of the current food system and the pros and cons of short- and long-supply chains. What lessons do we learn in the aftermath of COVID-19? Is a more localised or globalised food system better for the environment? How do these conversations play out differently across the world?

We’ll be practicing dialogue rather than debate, and having a conversation grounded in science, that will also bring about value-based reflections and conclusions.

The session will include a moderated conversation, questions from the audience, and break-out rooms to further discuss and engage with the topics.

We especially welcome SLU students, researchers and the extended Table community!

This event has already taken place. Visit Table on YouTube to see a recording of the event.

Table is a food systems dialogue collaboration between the University of Oxford, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and Wageningen University and Research(WUR). We seek to facilitate informed discussions about how the food system can become sustainable, resilient, just, and ultimately “good”. We impartially set out the evidence, assumptions, and values that people bring to food system debates. To keep up to date with Table, please subscribe to our weekly newsletter, Fodder, which rounds up the latest journal papers, reports, books, jobs, events and more.

SLU Future Food is a platform for research and collaboration to develop knowledge, solutions and innovations aimed at ensuring that the entire food system is characterized by economic, ecological and social sustainability to overcome tomorrow's challenges.
